I don’t know how it happened. I was grappling with Joe, one of my regular training partners at Roberto Traven’s, when it happened. I felt fine until I stood up. Something in my knee started to feel loose, and then I started to feel a sharp pain on the inside of my knee. I grappled for a little longer, and I felt fine until I stood up again.
I started to rub the inside of my knee, and it felt a little sore. Joe said that it could be a meniscus tear. He had experienced one himself.
I have been working my free flowing grappling style for the past few weeks not worrying about positioning. This style has made me more active which is good for me and my grappling partner, but maybe I should have stretched out first. I do remember doing a baseball slide type pass. Maybe that’s how my knee got injured, but I didn’t feel it when doing this pass.
I went home, iced it that night, and I went to sleep soon after. I woke up a little early because my knee was throbbing. It hurts most when I straighten it and put some weight on it.
I hope it’s something minor, but I’m going to have my buddy, Dr. Lewis Friedlander, take a look at it tomorrow. Hopefully it is something minor. Needless to say, I won’t be working out today. That sucks.
